New Years Resolutions Humble and Grand

In 2013 I won't exercise every day, I won't run a marathon or do an ocean swim or lose 10 kilograms. I will have good intentions about eating better, but I probably won't do that either. I will continue to do a good job at work but I probably won't make any significant achievements. I will try to be more organised at home, but will probably get tired of that by February.

My life is good. I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful boy, a lovely new home and family and friends. I have a hobby garden and a small vegetable patch and I'm learning to sew. I'm cooking more than ever and I have a good work / life balance. I want for nothing.

This year I will say 'no' to the non-essential, realising that each commitment I make, takes potential energy from something more important, like an engaged relationship with my son and a healthy relationship with my husband.

This year I will strive for mediocrity in the superficial and excellence in the meaningful, aiming never to get the two mixed up.

This year I will be more positive, more open and more generous, listening more, talking less and loving more, because I can and because I should.

My aspirations are all at once humble and grand.

What are your aspirations for 2013?

faboulous real post!!! I love it! I had a big list of things I wanted to achieve last year, and most of them didn't get crossed off.. However I did do things I didn't expect would happen so I am happy with my overall year...

This year.. reality.. I have a short list of things I wish to achieve.. and I know I can.. if I just encourage myself to take that step... that is my word for the year.. encourage!

Lovely post! I am seriously aiming to say 'no' in 2013 for the reasons you stated above. So tired of committing to others and it taking time away from my family. Happy new year!

What a great post, I love the notion of not taking on essential things, I have a habit of doing that, to the detriment of all around me. Happy New Year Bree! Emily

Great post Bree. I'm sure we all want to do the same things as well. It's just remembering to do them. Have a great 2013.

Love love love. How come every January 1 we think this has to be the year we dazzle everyone's pants off? What's wrong with striving to just be content and happy with and for those we love the most? So well said!

Inspirational indeed! I have some resolutions this year to achieve and my theme for 2013 is CHALLENGE. Yes I am challenging myself to conquer my own resolutions :)

I am compiling resolutions quotes for my first newsletter out in mid of January and yours is one of them.

Happy New Years Bree! :)

I love this post Bree - my favourite line is aiming for mediocrity in the superficial and for excellence in the meaningful. So true. I hope 2013 turns out to be humble yet grand for you and your family - all the best!

I don't really make resolutions because I am one of those people that breaks them 5 days later LOL. I do hope to have a good year, though, and be the best mom I can be.

I want to be engaging more with my kids too. We're on holiday at the moment and I am so enjoying spending the time with them; they are wonderful human beings.

Bree, What a beautiful post and you could have been writing this post about me. All the things you have said here are things I have promised myself. I could not have said it better but this year I do promise to do all these things and still make all my dreams come true.

I know you will do all of these things and so much more. I think you are amazing how you juggle so many balls and keep them all perfectly in the air. See you in the new year. Here is to an amazing 2013.
Much Love MTA
