My macaroni cheese is the best. Bacon, butter, cheese - what's not to love!
Ingredients
2 cups of small elbow pasta
60 grams butter
2 rashers of bacon, finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons of plain flour
1 1/2 cups of milk
200 grams tasty cheese, grated
2 pieces of bread, roughly chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180 C or 350 F.
2. In a large pot, cook pasta until tender. Place cooked pasta in a medium size baking dish and set aside.
3. In a medium pot, melt butter and add onion and bacon and cook gently until onion is soft and bacon is cooked.
4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in plain flour. Add half a cup of milk, stir until smooth and return to the heat. Gradually add remaining milk and cook over a medium heat until sauce thickens.
5. Add half of the grated cheese and stir until dissolved.
6. Add salt and pepper to taste.
7. Pour sauce over cooked pasta. Sprinkle with bread and cover with remaining cheese.
8. Cook for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.
