The Maniacal Housewife

Definition of MANIACAL:
                 affected with or exhibiting insanity
                 ma.ni.a.cal.ly - adverb

Every once in a while I am afflicted with maniacalness. It's a medical condition. The Internet says so.

This mania is always triggered by the same thing - my messy house.

I like a tidy house. This is not to say my house is always so. Generally it's not and my free flowing self is generally ok with this - up to a point, then the anal maniacal freak in me takes hold, punches the free flowing me in the face and proceeds on a rampage. Those who are in the way better duck for cover or bloody well help to get things sorted.

I have had two maniacal episodes in the last two days. The first was triggered by the disappearance of my urgently needed resume. I suspected it was packed in the still unpacked boxes from our move twelve months ago (don't judge - it's rude).

One hour later, with husband and child hiding in the house I had turned out 16 boxes and hurled all the empty ones out the garage door. There was some satisfaction in getting through such a lot, but also a lot of swearing about the still lost resume.

Today's episode was triggered by my kitchen. See exhibit A:

I don't know how I manage to do this and I can do it in record time!

Enter maniacal rampage and thirty minutes later things are looking a little better (ignore crap under the high top - remember it's rude to judge).

I do feel sorry for my husband in these moments. He can sense them brewing and begins to tread very carefully. He knows if he says something, anything he will be swept into the eye of the storm. I think he tolerates it because he knows the moment is fleeting and ultimately he'll reap the reward without having to do anything. Unless the maniacal bitch unleashes the no arguments dictator who starts issuing orders. But that's a story for another day.

For now my bench is almost clear and I'm going to enjoy it for the short time that it lasts.

Does your house get unruly?
Do you have maniacal moments?
Please tell me you do...

If my house is really bad I invite someone over for dinner - it forces a maniacal episode!

Oh it's not just me! And 'snap' is the perfect word!

I get this! You can cope up to a point, and then it has to change! There can be no more mess!

This morning I am everyone clean for 15 minutes, and it's amazing what we all got accomplished doing it together! Plus I got to come home to a tidy house.

A tidy kitchen is completely necessary. When it's mess it's just awful!

Can definitely relate - although "unruly" might be a polite term for what our house looks like sometimes! But once I've finished my cleaning ramgage I can physically feel myself relax. Clean floors, in particular, have a very soothing effect ;)

Oh yes I know exactly where you are coming from! There is nothing worse than not being able to find anything. I totally get this way. I am pretty bad when it comes to re-arranging the furniture, and planning on organising something. I am just glad I no longer have a man to complain about my outbursts!

It's like everything is fine and then all of a sudden 'snap' - must be fixed yesterday!

I feel exactly the same way. I imagine that's what a drug addict feels after a quick fix! A bit worrying that :-)

I do have a lot of things that don't have a home and things that do tend to get moved from place to place. The reason I could do it in thirty minutes - it's the maniacalness I speak of. It makes one highly productive!
